Ice Wireless & Iristel Launch New Network in Canada's NorthIce Wireless and Iristel are launching something new. “Launching,” in this case, is meant in a quite literal sense, with a new satellite-based telephone and Internet network for the northern part of Canada. After successful trials, Ice Wireless is on track to roll out 3G services in the summer of 2013. The tests were done with SES (News - Alert) AMC-9, making this the first time an SES satellite was field tested in Canada’s north. The C-band satellite’s footprint covers Nunavut, as well as other rural and remote areas in the region. The trials used a variety of technology and partnerships, such as Atop HD video streaming and formatting for mobile devices, NovelSat modulation technology, and XipLink (News - Alert) acceleration performance enhancement technology. With this successful trial, Ice Wireless aims to release its 3G service to Iqaluit by Summer 2013, providing download speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps. It will also expand its CELC footprint, providing new telephony services such as fixed line home telephone. Itisted itself has its Inbound DID service, which leverages its CLEC capabilities and provides customers control to create new products and services through SIP/VoIP. It also lets next-generation service providers select and provision local Direct Inward terminated to VoIP gateways across the world. With it, Iristel can provide a virtual local presence in major cities across Canada, lower monthly telecommunications cost, improve call management services efficiency and provide a quality digital telephone signal. "This is the first time anyone has field tested an SES satellite in Canada's North," says Samer Bishay, president of Ice Wireless and Iristel. "What we experienced in Iqaluit was absolutely amazing. Our call quality for our fixed line and mobile phone tests was crystal clear, and we demonstrated broadband Internet speeds of 100 Mbits/s on a 2.4 meter dish, which is just as good, if not better, than any other satellite covering the North today. We are thrilled with the results." This bodes well for those in Canada’s North, who will be seeing a great boost to their telephone and Internet network next summer. Ice Wireless and Iristel are working hard, and the tests are looking good. With the services and technology it provides, this is looking like it will be a most successful launch.
